FACELIFT SURGERY
A facelift is a cosmetic procedure performed to reduce signs of ageing such as sagging, wrinkles and laxity in the face. This procedure reshapes the facial contours, giving the skin a tighter and more youthful appearance.

What Factors Cause Facial Aging?
Facial aging occurs due to a variety of factors, both modifiable and unmodifiable.
1- Time
Time is the most important and unchangeable factor in facial aging. Skin quality deteriorates over time. This is because the renewal cycle of the cells that make up the skin’s layers slows down. While old cells are replaced much more quickly in younger ages, this period lengthens over time, and the cycle slows down. Elastin fibers, which provide skin elasticity, decrease, and collagen fibers, which maintain its elasticity, deteriorate. The fat pads located under the skin, which give the face a fuller appearance, shrink with aging. This causes sagging.
2- Gravity
This is another important factor that causes aging and cannot be changed. Even if it’s not noticeable, gravity constantly pulls our tissues downward. Sagging in the face and other parts of the body is the result of a combined crime of aging and gravity. The tissue, which lost its elasticity, was unable to resist the persistent effects of gravity, resulting in sagging.
3- Exposure to Sunlight
The most significant solar exposure to facial skin is exposure to sunlight. Sunlight, thanks to ultraviolet B and C rays, causes deterioration in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. This deterioration can occur at the tissue level as well as at the genetic level, and skin cancer develops in this setting. Ultraviolet C rays, in particular, are known to cause serious deterioration in genetic structure.
4- Smoking
Smoking is the most important preventable factor affecting the aging process. Due to the toxins it contains, smoking causes hypoxia (low oxygen levels) at the tissue level. This means that circulation at the capillary level is weakened and disrupted. It also causes chemical damage to the tissue.
5- Other factors
Many chemical effects can be examined under this heading. Poor quality makeup, synthetic products, occupational exposure to chemicals, etc.
What Should Be Considered in Facial Aesthetics?
The topographic anatomy of the face is extremely complex, and signs of aging vary across regions. These areas, due to their complementary characteristics, cannot be considered in isolation. For example, midface sagging cannot be corrected independently of excess skin in the lower eyelids. This is because varying perceptions of age in different areas of the face can lead to worse outcomes than overall facial aging.
When considering facial rejuvenation procedures, it’s important to remember that the more surgical the procedure, the more bloody it is, the less effective it will be, and the shorter-term it will be.
Patient Reviews
Thread Facelift
This procedure uses dissolvable, semi-dissolvable, or non-dissolvable threads to counteract gravity and lift sagging tissue. It can usually be performed under local anesthesia within 15-20 minutes. It is the first method of choice for patients aged 35-55 who are experiencing signs of aging on their face but are too young for surgical treatment.
How Long Does a Thread Facelift Last?
Threads can be used for 1 year, 2 years, or even a lifetime, depending on the material used.
Thread Facelift Prices
Costs vary depending on the type of material used, the area to be treated, and the amount of threads used.
Non-Surgical Facelift
Also known as Hi-Fu, this procedure is based on the creation of controlled wounds in the subcutaneous soft tissue using ultrasonic sound waves. The effects appear within 3 months and last approximately 2 years.
What is a Facelift Surgery?
With traditional facelift surgery: It is possible to correct sagging that occurs around the eyes, in front of the ears, cheeks, around the nose, around the mouth, lips, and along the jawline (mid and lower face).
A facelift involves tightening the SMAS layer, which forms the muscles of facial expression. Sometimes a portion of this layer is removed, or sometimes it is completely lifted and resuspended to achieve the desired effect.
Who Can Have a Facelift?
At What Age is a Facelift Performed?
Facelift candidates are:
- Age 40-45 years and older
- With soft tissue sagging in the middle and lower face
- Non-smokers
- Do not have collagen tissue diseases
- Do not have conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
How Is a Facelift Performed?
A facelift is performed under general anesthesia in an operating room. The surgery takes approximately 4-6 hours. This time may be extended due to the combination of procedures such as a neck lift, eyelid surgery, or fat injection. Generally, to achieve a fuller and smoother face contour, Fat injections are often added to facelift surgeries.
Although excess skin is removed during facelift surgery, the primary mechanism of action is different. Beneath the skin lies a layer of tissue called the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system), which consists of the facial muscles and some membranes (faciae). The SMAS provides the primary strength of our face and is responsible for facial movements. Therefore, the tightening procedure is performed on the SMAS tissue, while the skin adapts to the new shape of this structure.
What is the Recovery Period Like?
A two-day hospital stay is sufficient after surgery. This period is sufficient and necessary to control bleeding. Postoperative pain is not expected. In fact, these surgeries require anesthesia. Numbness and numbness of the facial skin may occur for 6-8 weeks due to damage to the superficial cutaneous nerves during surgery. This is normal.
The most significant problems in the early postoperative period are edema and swelling, and the use of ice and a pressure mask are extremely beneficial during this period. Swelling resolves completely within the first three weeks, and the patient regains their new appearance. In facelift surgery, incisions are made within the hairline, at the front and back of the ear. With proper wound care, virtually no scarring occurs.
Facelift Surgery Prices
Because facelift procedures involve multiple combinations, pricing varies depending on the patient’s needs.
