CHIN AESTHETICS
Chin aesthetics is an aesthetic procedure performed to adjust the shape, size or position of the chin tip to suit the proportions of the face. This procedure balances the facial profile, achieving a more defined and harmonious appearance.

The position of the chin can alone alter the aesthetic perception of the face. It directly affects the appearance of the nose and lips, in particular. This effect is most noticeable in side profiles. In cases where the chin is more prominent than normal (prognathia), the lips recede, while the nose and midface appear sunken. In cases where the chin is more recessed than normal (retrognathia), the nose appears more prominent and forward. The exact position of the chin can be determined through analysis of cephalometric radiographs. If this abnormality is significant, it disrupts the alignment of the teeth (occlusion) and can lead to orthodontic problems. Recently, the position of the chin and jaw angles has become increasingly important in defining facial features. Facial features with indistinct chin angles can be unsightly.
What is Chin Aesthetics?
Problems with the chin tip are often detected during preoperative evaluations in patients planning rhinoplasty. A correctly positioned chin tip is crucial for the aesthetic perception of the nose and face. A receding chin emphasizes the role of the nose in facial perception, while a forward chin relegates the nose to the background.
Chin Tip Filing
Chin tip filing is a highly effective solution when the chin is prominent and prominent. Chin filing involves accessing the jawbone through the crease beneath the chin or through the mouth. Excess bone is removed by cutting or filing. This surgery takes approximately one hour. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Postoperative pain is not expected. However, there will be swelling and edema at the chin tip for one week to ten days. The use of bandages to support the chin tip after surgery helps control swelling. Occasional ice application is beneficial. If the incision is made inside the mouth, a liquid diet is recommended for the first 48 hours and mouthwash for one week.

Chin Implants
In cases where the chin is recessed, the best treatment option is the placement of permanent implants. Fat injections or fillers have also been recommended for this purpose. Implants can be soft silicone molds or hard compact materials (Med-Por). Implants are inserted into the bone either through the crease in the chin or through the mouth. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and in the operating room. Compact materials are fixed to the bone with screws, while silicone implants are left attached to the surrounding tissue. Depending on the technique, surgery time can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Surgery and recovery times with silicone implants are much shorter.
Those Who Have Chin Implants
They can return to their normal lives quickly. If an incision was made inside the mouth, it is important to maintain a liquid diet for 72 hours and use mouthwash for one week. The use of a chin mask is recommended for one week to 10 days after surgery.
We do not recommend the use of Med-Por implants due to the potential for infection in the medium to long term and the near-impossibility of implant removal due to their integration with the tissue.
However, silicone implants are both very easy to insert and, if necessary, can be removed very easily. While silicone implants are said to thin the jawbone in the initial phase, the likelihood of this thinning developing due to aging is also extremely high. There are no known cases of pathological bone fractures associated with silicone chin implants.
Chin Tip Filling
Hyaluronic acid or, more specifically, calcium hydroxyapatite fillers can be used for this purpose. Hyaluronic acid fillers last an average of 8 months to 1 year, while mineral fillers last 2 years. The procedure is performed in-office in 5-10 minutes and does not cause any swelling or redness.
Chin Corner Filling
Calcium hydroxyapatite fillers are the gold standard for defining bony structures such as the chin and cheekbones. These fillers are particularly effective in defining the angle of the jaw.
