Liposuction

Weight that cannot be lost despite all efforts is a common problem for most people. Liposuction is a method developed for the treatment of abnormally located fat deposits that are resistant to melting despite diet and exercise. However, over time, its application area has expanded and it has also been used for weight loss and correction of body contours, provided that certain rules are not exceeded.

How is Liposuction Performed?

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. The body area planned to be thinned is first inflated with a special liquid. After this liquid swells the fat cells and makes them ready to be absorbed (approximately 20 minutes), the fat cells are absorbed with the help of special cannulas and negative pressure. Only about 1 cm long scars remain on the skin where the cannulas enter. These scars disappear over time.

How Much Fat Can Be Removed With Liposuction?

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to remove up to 10-12 liters of fat from healthy and young patients. If the patient does not have any cardiovascular system disease, does not have diabetes requiring treatment, does not have vascular problems such as varicose veins, does not have a history of embolism, does not have a condition that prevents early movement, does not use blood thinners and similar drugs and is not addicted to smoking, the procedure can be performed safely. Although 4 liters seems to be the safe limit in the classical books, it is seen in the literature that fat intake over 10 liters has been performed in a healthy way.
